What are the differences between a Job and a career?

It seems that many people don't have a clue of whats the difference between a job and a career. I often listen while I'm walking in the street or in the subway, to the people talking about the career or baby-sitting for example, or the career of a "taxi-driver"; this wrongly stated arguments that people do on a daily basis are not with bad-intentions, It's good to be wrong every now and then, but we just need to avoid being ignorants in every single way. To know more about each other, we need the raw definition of each word.

The definition of a job is this:

Job: A piece of work, especially a specific task done as part of the routine of one's occupation or for an agreed price.

So, If we put it in other words, they tell you what to do and you get paid for that, something specific.

It's correct to say that I have a job as a taxi-driver or as a baby-sitter, because it's a specific task that you must do.

While a job is a specific task, a career is something not so quite specific.

The definition of a career is this:

Career: Occupation or a profession that usually involves special training or formal education, and is considered to be a person’s lifework.

If we paraphrase the statement, we would say that, it's the area of specialization of an individual which might involve several areas of specialization. Let's say, I want to be a pilot then, you study aviation and all of the requirements to be one, then you must choose your specialization, in which you have to choose between Commercial, Civilian or private pilot and also military pilot.

So, let's conclude by telling the difference, A job is your task and your career is the area of research of work in which you will get involved based on your formal education.
